So, we heard you're from around here?
I grew up around the area, yes. I went to high school with Harley, actually. I couldn't afford to really compete and own my own horse, and I still can't. I suppose I could've worked at a young age to support it but my parents probably would not have liked that so instead I worked around the barns and did some riding at the time, but I never really got into high levels, just lessons and groom work. It's sort of an odd position to be stuck in when most of the people around you are so highly competitive in places like this.
If you left, why did you come back?
I graduated from college after I went in on a scholarship for English studies. It was a pretty far off college, up in Maine. They took everything fairly serious, and I'm glad they did, but that degree couldn't get me a decent job. I worked for a few odd ball editing companies before I came back to California. I felt more compelled to come back home then to stay around Maine broke as hell without any friends or family to see.
Then your doing better?
Everything is going better, definitely. Working as a groom is pretty enjoyable, makes me realize I've missed a lot. The pay isn't as good as if I could actually use my degree but that's the way it is and while I didn't expect to do this it's really kind of nice to be back around the barn again. Besides, Harley didn't have to actually hire me in the first place. It's not really the same scene compared to all the extreme intellects up at college although I'd honestly prefer elitists with their horses over the educational system any day.------------------------------------------
